The challenge
Create a holiday client gift that makes a real connection with its recipient, and showcases Epsilon’s personality and tech savvy, to boot.
The solution
Coders and copywriters conceived of a way to hack the holiday heck out of a gaggle of Google Home Mini devices: cramming into the units an interactive quiz of Epsilon’s own design, prefaced by a merry greeting from Agency President Richard McDonald (known forever after as the company’s ‘Rick in a Box’). It was the perfect way to deliver the spirit of the season — and of our agency — into the homes and spaces of our clients.
The results
Recipients were delightfully challenged by both Richard’s kiwi accent and the quiz’s questions about our clients’ own businesses, Epsilon, and general marketing trivia. With 200 gifts delivered, the quiz has seen 318+ plays and counting. One client wants to leverage this idea for their own brand’s marketing. Oh, and Rick? He’s just getting rolling.

There was also an alternative gift prepared for all other clients, a box of rhino-shaped cookies, to show Epsilon and client support for the conservation efforts of the Northern White Rhino by the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Conservancy.

Google Assistant: “All right, getting the Epsilon Get Knowing Quiz.”
Richard McDonald: “Hi, this is Richard McDonald, President of Epsilon Agency. It’s been a great year for the clients we partner with, for the causes we support, and for our company overall.
“With prosperity comes responsibility. That’s why in 2017 we donated more than $1.5 million to charitable causes: protecting endangered animals, sheltering the homeless, and feeding the hungry. And we couldn’t have done it without you.
“Thank you for entrusting your company’s growth to Epsilon’s data-driven approach. We look forward to a prosperous 2018 together.
“So, to put a bow on this, happy holidays to you and yours. I hope you enjoy our Get Knowing Quiz. I’ll test your trivia knowledge around Epsilon, our diverse clients, and the world of marketing in general. Without further ado, let the game begin!”
Quiz: “So glad to have you back at the Epsilon Get Knowing Quiz. Time to start the game. The time for your first question is now.

Quiz: “You get the point! Well deserved. Epsilon was founded in 1969 by a couple of grad school students hoping to improve their fraternity’s marketing efforts. Epsilon’s first database was derived from index cards storing names and contact information.
“You can breathe now! The game is over. Here are your results… You didn’t miss all the questions, but you didn’t get them all right either. You got 4 correct. But that’s not going to be enough to win our grand prize. Better luck next time. Also, there is no grand prize. I was kidding about that.
“Should we go through this again?”
User: “No thanks!”
Quiz: “Ok. See you next time.”
